History

The origins of the Denur race are unclear, the earliest recorded events in history all take place in the icy north, but none specify where the Denur came from. Over the years many scholars have searched for answers, but till now all attempts were in vain. After Deonach had visited the firstborn, the race spread out across the entire Northern mountain range, carving many homes into the snow capped mountains. Over the next centuries this empire expanded and the Denur race prospered, but then it all came crashing down. The Denur never really recovered from the great collapse as 95% of the race simply perished. Today the majority of the Denur can be found in Dar-ach Denur, the capital of the Denur Imperium, but the occasional wandering Denur can be found scattered across Eden.

Appearance

The Denur are about 1,20-1,50 meters in height, which is the case for their infamous nickname amongst the other races of Eden: Dwarf, of note this nickname is considered extremely offensive to most Denur and is often used as a racial slur. Another famous feature of the Denur are their beards, which especially the lower class Denur don with pride. Most Denur have black hair, however there is a wide variety of hair colours in the Denur population of which blond is seen the least. The skin of the Denur is very pale, due to the location of their home, which is inside the mountain. There are even recorded cases of Denur who have never seen the sun in their lives. Similarly to their hair, the eyes can take on many different colours. Most notably however are the few Denur with red eyes, most of them born deep inside the mountains, their eyes now shining with a fiery glow.

Culture and society

Celebrations and Holidays

After the Great Collapse the Denur have had little to celebrate, and even if they had their society lacked the resources to do so. Over the years Denur society has become one that frowns upon waste and therefore lacks many national holidays other nations are accustomed to. The only real celebration is the standard veneration of Deonach, the mass worship on Friday in the Cathedral of a thousand stars.

But there is one national holiday, although it is not celebratory or festive. The grand day of remembrance, as it is known, is the day upon which the Denur mourn all the deaths that were caused by the Great Collapse, as well as the destruction of their deity.

Romance and Marriage

Because there is no spiritual connection to marriage, since Deonach does not concern himself with such simple affairs, weddings are often kept simple. A grand feast is even seen as a waste of valuable resources. Divorce is also allowed and not uncommon.

Life and Reproduction

Denur reproduce at a slow rate, often having only one child and in rare cases two. This is both due to biological factors and Denur culture, since in the decades after the great collapse food was scarce.

Death and Funerals

Unlike most other empires, most Denur don’t believe in grand spiritual concepts like heaven or returning one's soul to Deonach, instead most priests and scholars agree that after death one simply ceases to exist, therefore those who die are simply buried deep inside the mountain. Excessive funerals are even frowned upon, as they are believed to be a waste of resources.
