Introduction

Lunar Dragons, also called Storm dragons are huge dragons that sleep floating in the upper Atmosphere of Eden. It is the only living thing that it’s reported capable of surviving with such low quantities of oxygen.

They are all females, with the Cloud Dragon being their male counterpart.

There are very few things we know about this very rare species, that it is said can generate storms and change the weather according to its need.

Some biologists documented that their scales change color according to the lunar phase.

Only in a more recent past some elven researchers discovered that both the Cloud Dragons and the Lunar dragons belong to one race called “The Sky Dragons”.

Habitat

The Sky and the upper atmosphere. Very rarely they may adventure in the highest mountains, attracted by a prey or some unnatural magical happening.

Description

Their dark scales shine with the moonlight and cover their whole body from the long mighty tail to the long snout, always shining with moonlight. They’re usually about 9m long, even if larger specimens exist.

Lunar Dragons normally have blue reptilian eyes and short mustaches that stop growing when they’re adults. A “necklace” of dark purple scales similar to petals grows around their necks and glows when the Lunar Dragon prepares her deadly breath attack.

When the full moon is approaching, their scales start to grow even brighter, and they become completely white during the full moon.

During every full moon, these dragons lose their “flowery” necklace that usually falls on top of the highest mountains and gets covered by snow. Nobody has ever studied their age.

Behaviour

Differently from the males called Cloud Dragons, they have a territorial behavior and usually do not leave the area whose cloud they were once born.

What these specimens eat is a mystery and can hopefully be found out in the future. Some voices tell of voidal creatures that inhabit the outer atmosphere, or some unknown bird race. It is also possible that they partially sustain on aether magic collected by their body in the outer atmosphere.

Lunar Dragons (or Storm Dragons) are the brightest incarnation of aether magic. They are able to even absorb and manipulate aether magic.

Storm Dragons are the symbol of both Lunarmancy and Tempestamancy, that reflect with their double nomenclature.

During the mating season, after an acrobatic sky mating, the Storm Dragon produces a floating lightning orb that is then covered by a huge cloud produced by a Cloud Dragon. This cloud will float around in the sky for a couple of months, until a great storm will happen, during which a young Sky dragon (either male or female) will be born.

It is told that when a planetary magical happening (either voidal or elemental) occurs below their clouds, they feel an unnatural attraction to it and appear above the clouds.

In Combat

When in combat, the Lunar Dragon will use her breath weapon when possible, and then try to fight with her melee natural weapons. She usually does not flee and fights to the death, but if heavily wounded, she won’t chase her adversaries.

Abilities

Bite and Claws: The Lunar Dragon’s bite is very powerful, and her sharpened teeth can pierce like elven daggers. her claws are as good as her bite and always sharpen and lethal. A full attack from this dragon deals 3d3.

Lightning Breath The Lunar dragon can emit powerful lightning from her mouth. Everyone in a line receives 2d6 damage from this attack and is shocked. An agility roll can half the damage and save from the status. The cooldown for this attack can be from 3 to 5 rounds, depending on the dimension of the dragon.

Mistsight: The Storm dragon can naturally see through fog, clouds and mists as if they weren’t there

Draconic Immunities: This dragon magical immunities are limited to the sole aether magic that heals them by the same amount of damage they’d receive.

Lunar Mantle: Everyone hitting this dragon with a melee weapon receives 1 damage from its scales, shining with aether magic coming from the moon.

Drops

Almost any part of the dragon is useful and can be retrieved by a skilled hunter. Her “flower necklace” is coveted both as a magical item and as a rare decorative item.
