Introduction

A bright, vibrant coral found off the coasts of tropical climates such as the jungle, never more than 10 meters deep in the water. They are much more common in coral reefs, though these coral reefs are fairly rare and hard to find. Made of several fans of violet coral, this plant feeds off of plankton and algae in the plentiful waters of the tropics.

Description

This material is much like bone in that it’s very hard and smooth to the touch but very porous, able to filter food and nutrients from the surrounding water. The webbing around the coral stems gives the coral fan the appearance of an actual ‘fan’, though it is hard and brittle, so care must be taken when harvesting it so it doesn't break. These coral fans don’t necessarily have many alchemical uses. Still, they are rare and can fetch a high price for their beauty, and can be made into various types of jewelry and decorations.

Usage

  • Stem
Durable material. Like bone, it can be whittled into various wind instruments, decorations, and jewelry.
  • Webbing
The delicate latticework in-between the stems must be harvested carefully or else it will break. It can be used in decorations and jewelry.
