The Foamhoof is a coastal breed of goat, having recently been domesticated by the elven empire for naval expeditions as well as their distant towns in rough areas. They are able to thrive where others falter being used to saltheavy diets as their stomachs are able to tolerate almost anything. This making them uniquely suited to life on the shores

To the settlers of the colony, the Foamhoof quickly became one of their most valuable resources from the imperial mainland. These being a source of meat and milk, while their hide is used to make clothing which can withstand the sea air. Their endurance allowing them to flourish where resources are little, becoming a cornerstone in their survival.

Most sailors claim that they can “smell a storm” as they often start bleating before weather shifts. Whether this is instincts or something else, few are willing to ignore this.

Physical Appearance

These goats have quite dense coats which shields them from the winds and weather, their colours ranging from grey-white to charcoal black, often with some distinct pale streaks used to recognise them properly. Their horns curving backwards, a trait which evolved to aid with their defence.

The most distinctive trait they have is their hooves, broad and different in a way unlike any other breeds. Their hooves having evolved to perfectly cling to slippery rocks allowing them to navigate the rough coasts with ease.

The males can be easily pointed out due to their heavier manes, in low light or even in storms it can make them look larger and imposing. This is a feature often referred to in sailor stories of Foamhoofs staring down from the edge

Mental Characteristics

The Foamhoof is a hardy and quite stubborn creature, not quite valued for their intelligence, but luckily what they lack in wits and brains, they make up for in survivability and endurance. Compared to other livestock they are quite slow to learn, yet they make up for it in their survivability being capable of consuming almost anything organic, also being able to survive on mere scraps which would starve any other species

While they usually are placid, they may also show a more aggressive side during some seasons. They are prone to violent outbursts being known to attack even their handlers if they don't pay attention and if they stray too close.

Lifespan and Development

The Foamhoof usually carries their young for around a hundred and thirty days before giving birth. Once they are born, they are able to walk within hours of birth and then within only a few days they can be seen climbing up rocky ledges. Their instincts for climbing is almost like breathing

After only a year they reach maturity, their coats usually thickening and their horns starting to curve. In the wilderness they usually die after twelve or fifteen years. but those put to work often live shorter from their service, the harsh labour and horrible conditions in nature taking its toll.

Territory and Grouping

The foamhooves are very social animals, thriving in herds that wander around the coasts. Being known to favour rocky areas by the coasts where they can lick the rocks covered in salt as well as eat on the seaplants cast ashore.

When domesticated they are often kept near high cliffs and coastal areas where their footing combined with their stomach makes their maintenance easy, but they regularly roam inlands feasting on anything they can find. It doesn't matter if they are domesticated or not, their herd instincts makes sure they're almost never alone, their bleats carrying far so they can always find each other

Abilities

The foamhoof has one of the toughest stomachs that we know about among herded animals, their ability to digest almost anything organic without any bad effects making them quite unique allowing them to thrive where others would waste away. This making them important to settlers who cannot always rely on supplies

Almost as equally remarkable is their climbing abilities, famous for being able to scale almost every surface. Their hooves allow them to cling on sides where most would hesitate, often being called as steady as the cliffs.
