== Introduction ==
Soaring within the thermosphere of Eseron, the exalted phoenix dances across the night sky like a comet. Known by nearly all for its symbolism of eternal life and new dawns, these arcane songbirds have rarely been seen through one's telescope while stargazing.

== Description ==
It is infrequent that the sunbird can be seen as anything other than a streak in the night sky; however, tales have spoken of its graceful appearance when seen at lower altitudes. The tail feathers sprawled outwards like the flames of a campfire, with its wing beats leaving embers in their wake. With a craned neck and talons of a hawk, this creature's beauty is matched only by the ferocity of the orange and golden inferno. The regality of the mythic creature and its ties to eternal youth have inspired much iconography- Particularly in the culture of the Azari'Cill.

== Behavior ==
Ornithologists have rarely had the chance to study the behaviors of these creatures, often opting for speculation based on the summoned spirits of some Ignos Mages that mimic the phoenix’s appearance and power. However, based on their predatory features, it’s fair to say they aren’t harmless. That said, astronomers have had more luck studying these immaculate creatures, reasoning they have no need for sustenance nor sleep as they move across the sky like the Sun itself bathing in its heat. Only when it is time for them to be reborn at the dawn of a new Eden’s Shine do they finally fall from the sky with a purpose.

== Habitat ==
Mages whispered about the origin of the phoenix, suggesting that they first arrived from Ignos as the orbit of the elemental plane neared Eseron at the dawn of creation. However, all that can be said truthfully about the phoenix's habitat is their presence within the highest altitudes of Eden's sky. The phoenix is only known to descend on one occasion, seen chasing the Sun towards dusk to die out on the first day of Eden’s Shine. Not long after being reborn from ash, and seen painting the sky over the Glade with shooting stars, often celebrated with a festival in Luminion.

== Abilities ==
'''Movement:''' Phoenixes are known to move with the appearance of a comet, rarely ever gracing the ground lest they intend to be reborn. They fly swifter than any humanoid race in Eden can hope to run (2d6+6 agi).

'''Fiery Talons:''' A sunbird's talons burn like the red-hot metal of any forge, melting its way through defenses and searing the flesh (2d2 + Burn) of those who covet the youthful ash of any unsuspecting phoenix.

'''Combustive Rebirth:''' A phoenix can never be slain; upon reaching the end of its life (0 HP), it will simply return to ash. However, within a short period (3 rounds), these ashes combust (4d3 damage, d4+6 blocks), and from them come the phoenix reborn to flee back into the thermosphere.

== Drops ==
'''- Solar Feather'''

A common tail feather of the fire phoenix, radiant as the sun itself. Its heat is often sought out for practical use in ovens and other conventional heat uses due to the convenience. However, despite its household uses it is still often seen as an artifact first and hearth second.

'''- Phoenix Ash'''

The rare ashes left over from the rebirth of a legendary phoenix. Sold for a high price, these ashes are reserved primarily for the high class due to their cosmetic uses. Adding phoenix ash to one’s facial treatment is said to melt away the years of age, and give a new radiant glow to the skin comparable to turning back the clock.
