Soaring within the thermosphere of Eseron, the exalted phoenix dances across the night sky like a comet. Known by nearly all for its symbolism of eternal life and new dawns, these arcane songbirds have rarely been seen through one's telescope while stargazing.
Hidden at the highest levels of Eseron’s atmosphere flies the legendary frost phoenix, witnessed only by the most diligent and faithful astronomers. This is the rime blue phoenix of lore, who inspired not just the Azari’cill but all those who have looked upon it.

It is infrequent that the sunbird can be seen as anything other than a streak in the night sky; however, tales have spoken of its graceful appearance when seen at lower altitudes. The tail feathers sprawled outwards like the flames of a campfire, with its wing beats leaving embers in their wake. With a craned neck and talons of a hawk, this creature's beauty is matched only by the ferocity of the orange and golden inferno. The regality of the mythic creature and its ties to eternal youth have inspired much iconography- Particularly in the culture of the Azari'Cill.
Descriptions of the sky-tinted phoenix are often secluded to the personal memoirs of certain Aeri'cill's that curry the creature's favor, the cold avian being described similar to its fiery counterpart though with the scent of verglas. Unlike the burning feathers of your familiar phoenix, the frost phoenix's wings appear like glass, its deeper plumage taking on a mint blue color. These sharp-witted songbirds are frozen to the touch capable of causing frostbite on contact, and are often confused with the legendary Silver Phoenix, hunting companion of Kharash.

Ornithologists have rarely had the chance to study the behaviors of these creatures, often opting for speculation based on the summoned spirits of some Ignos Mages that mimic the phoenix’s appearance and power. However, based on their predatory features, it’s fair to say they aren’t harmless. That said, astronomers have had more luck studying these immaculate creatures, reasoning they have no need for sustenance nor sleep as they move across the sky like the Sun itself bathing in its heat. Only when it is time for them to be reborn at the dawn of a new Eden’s Shine do they finally fall from the sky with a purpose.
The hoarfrost crane is an incredibly astute being with greater intelligence than your average phoenix. With it has come a curiosity that lends to its frequent visits to surface levels during Lilith's Veil, soaring within the northern regions of Eden to study prey and potential predators alike. It is infrequent that it will choose to fight, often opting to flee at the first sign of aggression to the higher atmospheres. Although, it has been possible to melt the bird's heart with a similar display of intelligence and tact. Willing to check up on those it has discerned is worthy of its time.

Mages whispered about the origin of the phoenix, suggesting that they first arrived from Ignos as the orbit of the elemental plane neared Eseron at the dawn of creation. However, all that can be said truthfully about the phoenix's habitat is their presence within the highest altitudes of Eden's sky. The phoenix is only known to descend on one occasion, seen chasing the Sun towards dusk to die out on the first day of Eden’s Shine. Not long after being reborn from ash, and seen painting the sky over the Glade with shooting stars, often celebrated with a festival in Luminion.
While the frozen phoenix spends most of its time in the frigid upper atmosphere, far enough to be hardly visible with a telescope, one can sometimes run into the bird when it’s using snowfall to cover its curious inspection of the lower heights. However, these phoenixes can be caught unawares when the time has come for their rebirth. The bird rests in the peaks of Eden’s Spine to shed its crystal feathers. Some historians even claim the first snowfall of Lilith’s Veil is often marked by the rebirth of a frost phoenix. Rarely has it been known for the phoenix to rest near those who’ve earned their trust, expecting them to defend their rebirth.

Introduction

Hidden at the highest levels of Eseron’s atmosphere flies the legendary frost phoenix, witnessed only by the most diligent and faithful astronomers. This is the rime blue phoenix of lore, who inspired not just the Azari’cill but all those who have looked upon it.

Description

Descriptions of the sky-tinted phoenix are often secluded to the personal memoirs of certain Aeri'cill's that curry the creature's favor, the cold avian being described similar to its fiery counterpart though with the scent of verglas. Unlike the burning feathers of your familiar phoenix, the frost phoenix's wings appear like glass, its deeper plumage taking on a mint blue color. These sharp-witted songbirds are frozen to the touch capable of causing frostbite on contact, and are often confused with the legendary Silver Phoenix, hunting companion of Kharash.

Behavior

The hoarfrost crane is an incredibly astute being with greater intelligence than your average phoenix. With it has come a curiosity that lends to its frequent visits to surface levels during Lilith's Veil, soaring within the northern regions of Eden to study prey and potential predators alike. It is infrequent that it will choose to fight, often opting to flee at the first sign of aggression to the higher atmospheres. Although, it has been possible to melt the bird's heart with a similar display of intelligence and tact. Willing to check up on those it has discerned is worthy of its time.

Habitat

Abilities

Movement: Phoenixes are known to move with the appearance of a comet, rarely ever gracing the ground lest they intend to be reborn. They fly swifter than any humanoid race in Eden can hope to run (2d6+8 agi).

Icy Talons: A snowbird's talons are cold and sharp like a dagger made of ice, cutting its way through defenses and causing frostbite upon the flesh (2d2 + Burn) of those who covet the youthful snow of any unsuspecting phoenix.

Preserved Rebirth: A phoenix can never be slain; upon reaching the end of its life (0 HP), it will simply return to snow. However, within a short period (3 rounds), this snow reaches below zero and shatters outwards (4d3 damage, frozen III), and from it comes the phoenix reborn to flee back into the atmosphere.

Drops

- Crystal Feather

The legendary feather of the frost phoenix appears similar to a shard of ice, however, what makes it distinct is its inability to melt. Often the feather is sought out by high ranking officials and merchants as a delicacy. Capable of keeping food and other goods cold even in the heat of Eden’s Shine.

- Phoenix Ash

The rare ashes left over from the rebirth of a legendary phoenix. Sold for a high price, these ashes are reserved primarily for the high class due to their cosmetic uses. Adding phoenix ash to one’s facial treatment is said to melt away the years of age, and give a new radiant glow to the skin comparable to turning back the clock.
