Snakes come under the group of reptiles. This group can be recognized by their long and thin body and the fact that they have no limbs. There are many different types of snakes. Of these, only 15 percent are poisonous. Another way to distinguish snakes from other reptiles is their mode of locomotion. Instead of crawling or walking with their legs, they slither on their stomachs on the ground. Because their skin is covered with scales, the skin doesn’t get damaged.. Their body is round, thin and long. Their body is wider next to their head and gradually tapers into the tail.

What varies the most, In addition to their length, is their thickness: some species can even become the thickness of a clenched fist. Snakes usually have a scaly skin which, even if it usually appears as slippery and shiny, it’s always dry since it can repel water. A snake’s scales are not all attached to each other, but they are on a flexible skin that has a lot of stretch. This allows the skin to expand properly during movement, breathing, pregnancy and while eating large prey.

The smell is a snake’s most important sense, although it does not use its nostrils to breathe. Snakes smell with the help of scent particles that are attached to their tongue. When the snake moves its tongue, it captures more odor particles. When the snake then retracts its tongue into its mouth and puts it in a cavity filled with perfused tissue, it perceives the odors. The snake makes an analysis of the odor particles through the cavity to allow the snake to determine if there is danger or prey nearby. Snakes also make extensive use of the sense of touch to orient themselves in their environment. The sense of touch of a snake is located in the tips of the scales. Snakes are animals that lead a largely solitary life. The only exception to this is when it's time to mate. During this period, the males will fight each other to win over the female.

Snakes belong to the group of carnivores. This means that they feed on living animals. For example, the smaller snakes eat small prey such as amphibians and invertebrates. These are eaten in one sitting without killing them first. With larger prey, on the other hand, they first kill the prey by, for example, strangling it or poisoning it. Examples of animals that eat snakes include: Lizards, snails, insects such as ants and termites, smaller snakes, fish and eggs.

Appearance

Snakes come under the group of reptiles. This group can be recognized by their long and thin body and the fact that they have no limbs. There are many different types of snakes. Of these, only 15 percent are poisonous.

Snakes are known for slithering on their stomachs on the ground and for having approximately the same physique, except for their size and colour, that can vary from 1.5 to 2m.

Snakes usually have a scaly skin which, even if it usually appears as slippery and shiny, it’s always dry since it can repel water. A snake’s scales are not all attached to each other and can stretch. This allows their skin to expand during movement, breathing, pregnancy and while eating large prey.

Habitat

Snakes are cold blooded like all other reptiles , mostly why most species live in warmer places, like in the vicinity of Zadh-Nadrozz and in and around Anjyarr.

There are also snake species that live underground or in watery landscapes, such as rivers, lakes and seas where they learnt how to skillfully swim, although about every snake can climb and swim very well anyway. Snakes live all over Eden with the exception of very cold and frozen places. Snakes are in fact not present in the most northern mountains of Eden.

Behavior

The smell is a snake’s most important sense, although it does not use its nostrils to breathe.

Snakes smell with the help of scent particles that are attached to their tongue, detecting predators and prey around it.

Snakes are used to have a largely solitary life, except in their mating season. During this period, the males will fight each other to win over the female's permission to mate.

Snakes mainly feed on living animals. Smaller prey include amphibians and invertebrates, that they kill by biting it or poisoning it. strangling it or poisoning it. When snakes are hungry, they'll also hunt larger prey like lizards, fishes, other snakes or bigger animal's eggs.
