Description
Puppeteers of Khul appear as medium-sized humanoid demons as both male and female, yet do not let their looks deceive you, as when you step closer to a puppeteer the grotesque details of their being reveal themselves as you will notice that they may have more than two arms or maybe have a demonic tail. More often than not they will have horns sticking out of random parts of their body. The demon wears a wooden enchanted mask that cannot be taken off as punishment of Mariketh for attempting to trick the Trickster Prince. In addition, they wander around wearing a torn and washed-out Jester’s outfit with loops and horns sticking out from all ends from where seemingly magical strings are attached that vanish into nothingness. They speak only as if they are on stage, in short, and seemingly rehearsed statements and lines that have been approved by their master. They do not negotiate, they do not listen, and they are only there to execute their performance.
Behavior
Puppeteers are trickster demons of Khul and a magnificent show is the only language they understand. They are often found alone or in small troupes appearing in places of entertainment where they force an audience for their next grand show which usually ends in slaughter and brutal death as it is the audience who are the actors and the audience. A dance of blades and magical self-destruction is the play of a puppeteer and they are not satisfied until the entire audience is killed and sacrificed in honor of their Prince. Their magical abilities to puppeteer other individuals using their magical strings ensure none can resist their play as they cackle from the shadows as they warp and weave around the halls they inhabit. In case puppeteering has no effect, they also wield a short bow to pepper any and all who dare to resist their play with arrows.
Habitat
Puppeteers of Khul are home to Mariketh’s Palace of change where they use the constantly changing scenery of the palace to set up elaborate shows for their master. Yet when manifesting in the mortal plain, they are often seen being attracted to feasting halls, theaters, brothels, or other places of entertainment where they patiently wait for their next victim to put up another show.
Abilities
- Puppet’s Dance: When used, the target has to roll a DC15 int roll to resist the puppeteer, if a target is successfully bewitched the caster may pick a target in range and force it to attack another target of choice for the next D2 turns. Red Lines: You can't make the target attack themselves.
- Now you see me-: Once every 2 turns, the puppeteer may vanish from view and reappear anywhere again within a 20-block radius from their previous position. Even when in melee lock.
- Bewitched Arrows: When a puppeteer’s arrow hits an opponent, the damage that opponent deals to a puppeteer in that combat round heals the puppeteer that number instead of damaging it.
Drops
- Puppeteer’s Mask. The mask of a Puppeteer of Khul, a savage demon in service of Mariketh, the trickster prince of Khul. The mask is seemingly made out of simple painted birch wood. Its painting depicts a wide array of twisting and twirling lines and a creepy wide smile highlighted with bright red paint. Drop chance: 1 out of 5 (20%)
