Introduction
Horses come in many different sizes, shapes and colors. The most common colors are shades of brown, gray, black and white. Mostly with a big variety of spots and dots. Horses have a long snout, wide nostrils, flexible ears, and big eyes. On the head you will also find a hair layer in the shape of a mane and forelock. The head is attached to a long neck, which has very strong muscles. The torso includes a wide and strong chest, a massive back able to carry heavy loads, and a hairy tail.
Behaviour
Horses have a very strong fight-or-flight response. In most dangerous situations their first reaction would be to run away. If running away isn’t possible the horse will defend itself. Horses are herd animals, with a clear ranking, led by a dominant horse, usually a mare (female horse). They are also social creatures that are able to form friendships with their own species and with other animals, including humans. They communicate in various ways, including vocalizations such as nickering or whinnying, mutual grooming, and body language. Horses can sleep while laying down, but also while standing. Horses do not sleep in a solid period of time, but take many short periods of rest. Horses spend four to fifteen hours a day in standing rest, and from a few minutes to several hours lying down.
Abilities
Horses are held, because of some great abilities they have. The first and most common reason horses are held by people is because of their strength. They have the ability to drag heavy things like people on their back and the ability to pull carts with them. Another ability of them is that they can run very fast.
