Introduction

”The Deygrim”is a name originating from the Northmen-Attian dialect for "Masked Death". People who have encountered these monstrosities refer to them as Changelings or Shapeshifters; however the ability to change his shape is far from being its distinctive feature. The Deygrim is in fact a destructive, unmeasurable dark force that twists and corrupts the minds of humans and other intelligent beings.

Originating from the voidal planes, these abominations are twisted creations of advanced and irremediable voidal forces, following a twisted Voidal Titan that wills to corrupt and change the way of the living on Eseron.

Habitat

Their location of origin usually is “the Swamp of the Damned” often known as the Cursed Swamp of Magna Attia.

Changelings have been spotted everywhere around Eden, and it is heavily suspected that there are more locations where the demonkind are either summoned or torn from their reality into ours. Their ability to conceal is so good that some of them could likely be mistaken for a quiet commoner, or isolated people and survive in the society.

Description

It is hard and useless to quibble about their original form, since they might even not have any. The Deygrim's body and nature is constantly shifting, changing, and twisting into new creations to adapt into its enemy environment. They mainly have three forms:

The “concealed” one, that tries to imitate a humanoid living in its aspect.

The “monstrous” one, that reflects what Deygrim has really become with its continuous mutations. The many specimen of Deygrim that have been spotted and fought off in their so called “monstrous form” by in the Hadrian Empire have been described as having all bodies, either bestial or humanoid, covered in many eyes and mouths. This form roughly reaches the height of 2,5 meters (8 feet). The eyes and the mouths seem to act as different characters, sub-minds besides its mind located in its head. The humanoid parts usually have a head shaped like a human skull, sometimes with fangs growing from their mouth. The number of heads never exceeds two. Its monstrous parts usually have many appendages and tentacles. A Deygrim in its monstrous form has a distinct color that identifies them from the rest of the demonspawn: its veins, which are also visible in the outer layer of its skin, emit a white-blue hue.

Its last form is the sludge form that it uses to possess its victims: a dark blue-black sticky snail.

Changelings are still cunning, and use tricks and manipulation to deal with their foes, like offering increased power or death of enemies in exchange for possessing their host. Their powers consume the bodies they possess to work and are therefore limited, until a new body to consume is found.

Behaviour

Deygrim demons are, like most of the demons of the void, chaos incarnate. They are one of the least bloodthirsty demonspawn of all. But this does not make them less dangerous or murderous.

A Deygrim craves the corruption of the mind, the possession of its victims, and steering them into committing evil. If this fails, or if the changelings cannot use their speech to get into their prey's minds, they will try to possess the victim by force.

When it’s fighting, all of its different parts speak on their own as if they’re entirely different people. Its speech is in riddles, always asking questions or trying to turn and twist the words spoken to it. It seems to always be in conflict with its other "voices as the other mouths and eyes talk back to one another over time. Deygrims refer to themselves as; us, we, he, and she, even while lacking both the male and female productive organs on their bodies. The most common pronouns it’d use are Us and We, which refers to its many other eyes and mouths, and it only uses the pronunciation of I when the head it’s in complete control of itself.

Not all Deygrim use speech; some behave more beastlike with only growls and demonic-like screeches.

Abilities

Its main ability is shifting its body in size and mass to grow and detach multiple appendages, claws, spikes, and others made from the same body material. Though it can shape or twist its body into being fitting to its surroundings, it prefers to shapeshift into humanoid shapes.

One of his favorite forms is the sludge-like one, that he normally adopts to possess its victims. In this state, they are able to move on their own, sticking to the surfaces. When in its sludge form, a Deygrim is highly vulnerable to fire (both natural and magical). A Deygrim will emit a painful demonic screech when hurt in this state. If heard in close proximity, this screech will possibly stun both humans and animals, as the tone is deafening for a short time.

In this form a Daygrim has the ability to forcefully enter someone's unconscious body through one of its primary orifices. When the forceful takeover has started, the victim will struggle in a fight to control both body and mind.

During this process, the victim will choke on the sludge form of the Demon and the victim is observed to be in severe pain. This process usually takes from 2 to 7 minutes, depending on the victim's willpower, faith, and mental strength. When the takeover is finally completed and the Deygrim possesses the body, the human bones and muscles often extend to fit the demon's power, resulting in many cracks of bone and muscle tissue in the first seconds. After its takeover, the victim eye's irises change to a darker shade of blue to resemble the Demon host now in control.

A known way of identifying a possessed victim is by cutting to reveal its blood, which now resembles the same color shade as the sludge. There are three manners to force a Deygrim out of a body: through holy rituals, magic, and hurting the victim physically. A Deygrim is highly resistant to being cast out of its possessed host, but it is not impossible to break their hold.

When the demon is either forced out or has grown tired of its possessed host, it will leave its victim using the same orifices it used to come into the body.
