Introduction
Raccoons are mammals from the category of small bears. You can recognize them by the black mask they have around their eyes. This mask stands out even more because of the gray stripes above the eyes. There are also black rings around the tail of the raccoon. There are usually 5 of them. A raccoon has a broad head, fairly pointed snout, and short ears. They also have a short and broad physique with long legs. In addition to long legs, a raccoon has long toes that can be spread wide. A raccoon's fur is gray or brown and is very thick.
Behaviour
Social behaviour
Female raccoons live in a society where they share an area with the other female raccoons. Sometimes they meet up during feeding or resting. The males form groups to maintain their position during mating season. A group usually doesn’t have more than 4 members.
Diet
The diet of a raccoon is very varied. It contains invertebrates, plants and vertebrates. In the spring and summer they mostly eat insects, worms and other small animals. During the late summer and autumn a raccoon mostly eats nuts and fruits.
Reproduction
Raccoons usually reproduce during the period between the start of the year until the middle of the third month. In this period males roam around their home looking for females. They do this to try to court the females during the period conception is possible. The duration of this period can go from 3 to 4 days.
Abilities
Raccoons are very good at climbing, this is due to the construction of the legs and the rest of the body. In addition, they have the ability to control their limbs, muscles, and body, for example, crawling in small spaces. Raccoons can squeeze into very small spaces. They are also very intelligent animals. The senses of a raccoon are therefore better than average, especially the sense of smell and hearing are somewhat more advanced than those of a human.
