Introduction
Cave Trolls are large humanoids that inhabit the Underground. Since the Trolls have always been hunted and driven away from their own territories, many sought refuge underground, where they live their primitive life with the little they find.
Here they’ve watched their children starve and their riches stolen by elves and men for generations, leading them to a common resentful attitude to the surface people.
They are strong and aggressive although they have learnt to fear the small folks of the surface and usually do not attack them unless provoked.
Sometimes their small communities can grow in numbers in the underground and start to expand in other underground places, leading to wars with goblins, kobolds and even demonic entities.
Habitat
The Underground (Roaming), Troll Realms Underground
Description
These colossal creatures have tough blue-gray skin, usually covered with grime. They normally wear some simple attire, like some simple gold jewelry and some thick bear fur and some simple leather clothing, although their troll resistance and regeneration is proverbial.
A cave troll is usually about 2.7m tall, slightly less than their River Troll and Ogre cousins, with no differences between males and females.
They are normally very muscular, have red shining eyes, strong legs and very long arms that they use to wield common tribal weapons like bone spears and clubs.
Their head is small compared to their body (as it’s their brain). They have a hooked nose, a huge terrifying mouth with long fangs and sharp teeth.
Behaviour
All trolls have a high regeneration factor and are immune to voidal magic such that many historians believe that the advent of civilization and the troll fall as a race helped the advent of voidal forces, since the trolls are a sort of Eden’s natural antibody to voidal corruption.
There aren’t many differences between male and female specimens. As other mammal races they are very protective of their children, although they don’t make many and are usually left in their den, when the parents wander around in search of food.
Cave Trolls are more civilized and have simple societies underground whose economy is built around barters, pig and mushroom breeding and territory defense, that they fortify with simple rock constructions and boulders.
When a troll is hungry he gets more aggressive and possibly the tribe will behave more aggressively, in search of food.
Cave Troll villages underground are made of 5 to even 20 troll families and have a chieftain that they decide through ritual fights. The chief wears richer clothes and jewels, and sometimes possess even better weapons.
Cave Trolls are specialized diggers and use simple tools to break rock and make their dens, although they do not like to explore much and prefer to keep the underground intact, not knowing how to properly create large spaces without the rocks on the ceiling falling on them.
They store their riches inside the chieftain house, that they’ll later use for trading them with goblins and kobolds, that give them food in exchange of gems and gold they add to their hoard.
Trolls do not talk and express using single words like “ME HUNGRY!” or “DESTROY!”. But it’s speculated Cave Trolls are even able to express more complex emotions with the help of hand gestures and face expressions.
In Combat
The cave troll is always armed when exploring the territory outside his village, and its tactics is to just SMASH its enemies with its brute force, possibly not using any brain sophism. Cave Trolls never use group tactics or strategies, and frontal direct attacks are everything they do.
If the target is too far or out of range, the troll will throw one of his Bone Javelin.
Abilities
Troll Regeneration: The Cave Troll has a light constant regeneration of 1hp/round. Can heal from every sickness, it’s immune to poisons and any type of voidal magic.
Troll Strength: The Troll’s strength is just superior to any other humanoid race of its size. The Cave Trolls use their tribal weapons with good proficiency, although they’re less strong and smaller than their surface cousins.
Attack (armed): When armed the Troll deals 2d4 damage to a single target. His weapon can either be a spear or a club.
Attack (unarmed): When unarmed the Troll deals 2d4-1 damage.
Javelin Throwers: Cave Trolls usually carry one or two large Bone Javelin that they throw to their enemies. They are good with them and can use strength instead of agility to aim at their target. The Javelins deal 1d6 damage.
