Phyla
|
Most find these small and cute creatures rather misplaced in the category of spirits. Phased into a spectral appearance, these furry little bunny-like animals hide in the grass until they see an escape, then jump out through and under the branches to the burrows they are housed in under the trees. Unlike most spirits, these are passive and usually display a defensive and evasive tactic when it comes to approaching other species.
These creatures look like shrunken bunnies, being somewhat smaller and having almost non-visible paws hidden in their thick fur. Their appearance is spectral for the most part, but the tips of their fur somehow find a way into the material plane and look alive. This simple fact has made many describe them as closer to hedgehogs than actual bunnies, though their ball of fur for a tail and long ears, like those of bunnies, tend to tell otherwise.
Furthermore, unlike bunnies, the Phyla have an almost non-existent snout, the only thing noticeable being a little nose tainted black under their shiny spectral eyes. Their lower body, more precisely their belly, often lacks any fur from scrubbing on the ground due to the small size of their paws. This also causes their walk to be similar to hovering or dragging on the ground.
Habitat
As mentioned, Phyla live under the trees found in forests, in burrows specifically made by them. They only leave their home to search for food or if their current burrow is attacked. They group in numbers of five to six individuals in one burrow, while the female and male numbers inside often vary quite a lot. Once the burrow has already about five inside, usually some of the older ones leave, either for a different burrow to reproduce again, or to die amongst the plant life. The babies are often protected by only two individuals inside the burrow until they are born.
Behaviour
Phyla are very passive creatures, commonly hiding from predators through the usage of coverage, such as roots and holes. It is very uncommon for them to be spotted, since they have quite an exceptional sense of danger and will often hide away as soon as they hear a noise out of the ordinary for them. In other words, Phyla are shy and usually extremely evasive. It is likely they will attempt to run from anything even if it does not show any signs of being aggressive towards them.
When cornered, Phyla have a very distinct way of attempting to evade any attempts to harm them by pretending to be part of a plant or bigger animal. They usually cuddle up in a ball and allow their material fur to surround all of their body, looking like a fur ball from a plant or bigger animal. If dropped on the ground in this state, depending much on their fear level, they will either rapidly run away and hide, or maintain their static disguise until there is no danger nearby.
Abilities
Phyla do not have any unique abilities. They are capable of the same things as a normal bunny.
