Introduction
Risen skeletons are some of the most common mindless servants of their malicious necromantic masters. They are created from the remains of long-forgotten mass graves, kept together by the dark powers of their master and still wearing the rags and equipment they were using in life, now turned to be used against the very people they once used to defend. These malignant warriors from ages gone are all that is left from the many wars fought in the region they are risen within, forcing the souls of warriors back into their bodies from the afterlife and back into the mortal plain to do the bidding of their newfound masters through the foul magics they wield to keep them enthralled to their will. These undead monsters have no more flesh to cut or a tongue to speak their minds or command. They are but the mute minions sent forward to die once more. Mindlessly cutting away their foes as the flickering leftovers of the warrior’s soul within is haunted by horrific thoughts of battles past which ended in their deaths, encouraging them to fight harder to avoid repeating that brutal fate. It is indeed true that these warriors have a soul trapped within, but do not be fooled by such knowledge, for what remains within these skeletal husks is no more than an ember of who was once there. Kept in place as a catalyst for the necromancer’s powers to ensure the warrior’s bones hold firm and shape as they march on to battle until their watch ends once more. They recall nothing of their mortal lives but the faint impressions of suffering their deaths at the very end. A most tragic fate for those marching in the ranks of their masters, ripped from their peace on death once more to fight on for malicious goals.
Destroying a skeleton is a challenging feat, as the skeletal frame keeping the thing together has to be shattered to bits. Simply cutting off a limb or even the head as no effect as the creature will still continue its march without a single sense of weakening. No, the key to destroying one of these creatures can be done by shattering its chest, freeing the trapped soul from its cage and allowing the skeleton itself to crumble to nothing for it to rest forever once more, or to be risen by its overlord as soon as it is cut down.
Behaviour
Skeletons are mindless minions of their masters, only kept together by the flickering embers of what was once a soul trapped within the body. They have no free will and cannot be reasoned with. These mute warriors cannot speak nor think as the only warning of their arrival is the thundering sound of their march as regiments of them barrow down upon their poor victims.
Abilities
Reconstructed: Whenever a skeleton dies, roll a D6, on a 6, the slain creature stands right back up with all of its HP.
Restless march: Regiments of skeletons (min 10) may move without using their agility modifier outside of melee combat.
Note: Skeletons use MELEE weapon profiles or the BOW profile. The crossbow however, cannot be used since the contraption is too complex for a simple risen skeleton.
Drops
Bones, skulls, their equipment, etc.
