Introduction

Skunks are pretty small animals with black and white fur. However in some cases they have brown,gray or cream colored fur. On their tail they have one single white stripe going from the beginning of the tail all the way to the end. On both sides of this stripe they have 2 smaller white stripes .Their size varies between 40 to 90 centimeters long. They have a relatively long body with short muscled legs. A skunk has paws attached to these legs with claws on the ends of the paws in the front. Every foot has 5 toes, so they have 20 toes in total.

Behaviour

When skunks aren’t breeding they usually live alone. However they’ll find each other for warmth in case the temperatures get lower. At day they seek shelter in their burrows. They dig these burrows themselves with the claws attached to their paws. In the winter the female skunks will huddle with a group of about 12 skunks. The male skunks spend this period all by themselves.

Reproduction

A skunk couple mates at the start of The Emerald Dusk and have polygynous relationships. This means that skunks can have multiple partners. Before a female skunk gives birth, this usually happens in Greenfall, the female skunk digs up a den to birth her 4 to 7 kits. After a skunk is born it will be blind and deaf for a while. After about 3 weeks the kit will open its eyes.

Diet

Skunks eat plants, but also materials from animals, this makes them omnivores. Their diet consists of insects, worms, larves, animals like lizards,salamanders and frogs, but also fruits, nuts, fungi and grass.

Abilities

If a skunk feels threatened it will spray a liquid. This liquid is known for its very strong scent and flammability. Getting this liquid in your eye can lead to irritation and sometimes even temporary blindness. If the skunk sprays on you, you roll a D3.

Skunks also have a great sense of smelling and hearing. Their vision on the other hand, is relatively bad. They can only see things that aren’t further than 3 meters away.
