History
Origins and Start
The Midnight Watch was originally founded in 1423 Sunfall, by Ammio Al-Amamion. Back then this guild was not even a guild it was more like a clan, it went under the name 'The Protectors’ back then it was only Ammio and a few close people she knew from around Eden that was part of the clan. They were like family, and they shared one sole goal; to clear out the reported monster attacks, to make the road safe to travel.
They came by a wide variety of monsters throughout their first years, and after having wandered around and having earned a hefty amount of coin and a good reputation, they decided it was time to build a base of operations.
They decided on living in the Deserts of Anjyarr, and started digging out a hole in one of the many terracotta mountains, near the Spine of Eden. They chose to live more secluded, for the Clan was a private society.
Construction started in Winterfall 1427, and after many hours and weeks of hard labor, the end result was a small but rigid fortress, with enough living space to house a fair amount of people.
After having constructed a living area, The Protectors realized that they had to grow in numbers if they wanted to make a real change on the continent of Eden, and thus they decided to invite more people into the clan. The clan grew in numbers, and they decided to change their name to ‘The Midnight Watch’. After having changed their name, the warriors once known as The Protectors decided to turn their fortress into a guildhall, ditching the secrecy they were once known for.
As the Guild grew in members, the guildhalls also had to be expanded so that every member would have a place to stay. Not only was the Guild forced to expand their guildhall and housing area; as they grew in size, they had more men and women to contribute to their quest of ridding Eden of the many terrible monsters that walked around, and as such the treasury grew in size as well.
Twelve years after the construction initially started, the fortress was well-known by both mankind and intelligent monsters. Because of this, the brave members of The Midnight Watch would have to expand their defenses as well, for the fortress started getting attacked by groups of monsters.
Glory Time
In the year 1442, Sunfall, the Guild had grown so successful that this year would mark the start of their most celebrated glory days. They encountered a Wise elderly Elf named Jiid, standing for ‘Moon’ in the draconic language.
The Elderly Elf was one of the few, that knew a lot about monsters and demons. In the first year, this elderly elf named Jiid only seem to appear when the full moon was up. Most of the time she seems not to talk a lot more watch around and warn.
Around the start of 1443 Jiid had warned the guild so much about monsters and other creatures that there wasn't a lot to come after. In the time of peace, their glory time also rose, they had done what they told, clear out the beast against mankind, even if it only was most.
It was in the year 1444 when Jiid came, bearing bad news for the guild. The full moon would shine brightly on the wise elf's white hair, as it warned The Midnight Watch of its impending doom in the form of a demon, seeking to get rid of the guild.
This would be the last the Jiid showed up at the fortress. In the following months, the guild would grow less wary of the elf’s warning, for they continued to slay monsters without fail. Without the elf’s frequent visits and with the roads a safer place again, The Midnight Watch’s visitors would slowly dwindle down. Because of the lack of visitors, this period is also less well-documented, and thus a lot is left to the imagination as to how the guild members would spend their days.
The Fall
The guild went silent, and not much was heard from it after the year of 1446. However, this silence was broken in 1451. A call for help was sent out to every nation that had ever received support from the guild.
The letters containing the call for help would describe a Great Demon that came from the realm of chaos attacking the fortress, easily overpowering even the most experienced of warriors stationed in the guildhall. Within a few hours, the Great Demon would have already broken through the first line of defense, and before the first messenger had even mounted his horse, the Guild had already seen at least nine people die at the hands of the demon.
Even if any nation had sent any help, it would have been futile, for the Great Demon proved itself to outmatch the brave warriors of the Midnight Watch with ease.
The warriors, led by Ammio Al-Amamion, were forced to retreat to the lowest levels of the guildhall, overwhelmed by the strength of the demon.
It had become clear that fighting back would be futile, and thus the remaining warriors attempted to flee from the carnage that was taking place inside their beloved guild halls.
Luckily, a passageway had already been prepared, in case it was ever needed.
Only a few of the once many members of the guild managed to escape, among them was their leader, Ammio Al-Amamion. As they fled, the collapse of the innermost parts of the fortress could be heard. The Great Demon had succeeded in his mission of breaking up The Midnight Watch, and was never seen again, seemingly having vanished into thin air.
A few nations had sent scouts to investigate the demon attack mentioned in the letter, and these scouts would be the ones to first see the gruesome sight of the ruined fortress, littered with corpses, sprays of blood on the walls, organs, and bones scattered across the entire fortress.
The new Rise
In Starfall 1522, would Ammio Al-Amanion, the leader of the once great guild known as The Midnight Watch, decided to return to the fortress which she once commanded, to bring it back to its former glory.
After 71 years since the great attack, the dead corpses had completely rotted away, and only the bones of the fallen watchers had remained. The halls that were once filled with laughter and friendship were now filled with sand and rusted equipment. Areas which were once used as farmlands were now ruined beyond recognition.
The battle-hardened Ammio decided that it was time to rebuild, for the monsters were once again on the rise on the continent of Eden. The goal which the watchers once shared had not yet been achieved. Ammio would start renovating as soon as she could. She would be aided by a few relatives and old friends that knew of her history.
In Sunfall 1523, would the once-great fortress be rebuilt, though far from being as grand as it once was, the fortress of The Midnight Watch could be called inhabitable again. Most of the treasures and trophies had rusted away or were destroyed beyond repair after the demon had raged around in the halls, but Ammio managed to recover a few valuable artifacts of the golden age of her precious guild.
In Edensrest 1523, would there be spread flyers throughout Eden and send letters to the neighboring countries, announcing the reopening of the guild. This would mark a new beginning for The Midnight Watch, and a new beacon of hope would appear for the people of Eden, plagued by monsters.
Intent
The Midnight Watch was founded to make Eden safer and clear out monsters. However, the guild members would refuse to hurt any innocent creature, as long the creature would not be harmful to mankind in any way or form. This is one of the most important ideals of the Guild. They strongly believe that the innocent, no matter the race, do not deserve the same fate as a bloodthirsty monster that would attack mankind. The members of The Midnight Watch don’t just wander around until they run into a monster; they also accept requests from both rich nobles and poor peasants.
Location
The Midnight Watch is located deep in the desert hidden away from the public behind the mountains, using it as cover from monsters. This place was picked to give them privacy and secrecy until their grand opening to the public in 1428.
The Guild's Icon
The Guild's Icon was originally just a cross of iron, but as they opened it to the public they updated it to be sharp and pointy in the ends making it look more like a blade in the bottom and 2 arrowheads on the sides. They made an open circle at the top the represent that they were an open guild, accepting new members seeking to aid mankind. The red background is a sign of their respect for their fallen brothers and sisters which were lost in battle.
The Oath
The Oath is the last step to becoming a Watcher. A willing person needs to say the Oath out loud to show that he cares and prays respect to the guild and will protect the innocent lives in this world.
I give my life to the cause.
I speak respectfully
and don't hurt innocent beings.
If this may be the end tonight,
I atleast fought.
I swear to stay Loyal,
and remove the terrors of this world
