Introduction
Witch Weed, formally known as Viriditas Pythonissam, is a strange seaweed. Though normally found within reefs or, less commonly, marshes and swamps, Witch Weed is easily discernible by its characteristic purple coloring. It is quite an uncommon herb, being used for more magical purposes. Not to be confused with its mundane cousin, kelp, Witch Weed grows almost exclusively in saltwater bodies but may rarely be found in freshwater; therefore, one should not be searching for Witch Weed along the swamps of Magna Attia, lest they disappear into the swamps and not be seen again.
Description
Witch Weed closely resembles regular seaweed with its typical green, wavey leaves. However, this herb can be differentiated among clusters of seaweed due to its unique purple coloring, which can be found on the tips of its wavey leaves. When fresh, Witch Weed has a pleasant, earthy scent; however, if Witch Weed has gone bad, it will smell like rotten eggs, like other clusters of dried seaweed. Some may swear that the purple tips smell different from the rest of the plant, though this may be an unproven rumor.
As for the feel of the plant, Witch Weed is still a special type of seaweed and therefore contains a similar texture. Their surface is smooth throughout, though the purple tips have a silkier consistency than the rest of the plant when fresh. Once it has gone bad or begun to turn bad, the plant will gradually become quite slimy, and the rotten smell will be difficult to remove from clothes and skin.
Usage
This aquatic herb does not affect aquatic creatures, only those that breathe air.
- Leaves
- The main feature of Witch Weed is its green, wavey leaf and unique purple tips. When an air-breathing organism ingests the leaf, it will forcibly mutate the user for a temporary duration of time. This mutation is very painful, as it causes the gaps between their fingers and toes to seal up, forming webbed hands and feet.
- Stem
- Connecting the leaves is a thin, flexible stem of a very similar green color, though a tad bit lighter in color. The stem then branches out minimally, forming small baubles on which the leaves may be separated and plucked. The stem and baubles, in themselves, hold no magical or special effects. It contains the typical qualities and effects of normal seaweed.
