Introduction

“How do you find a Wraith? Just look at a battlefield, they are not hard to miss” is an old adage any soldier and clergyman is all too familiar with. The Wraith is considered the result of war, but it could be argued these creatures have existed long before wars did, perhaps only feeding on it now as a cruel form of sustenance. Wraiths, while uncommon, rarely act as individual undead. Frequently, Wraiths can be found co-existing with other spectral creatures including Banshees, Spectres, and members of their own ‘species’.

Wraiths take the form of awkward misshapen masses of spectral energy with two large arms with long spindly hands ending in sharp talons, able to shred skin and crush bone if given the opportunity. Each shape of a Wraith is entirely unique to the individual undead.

Wraiths are most commonly found at the sites of large battles, cities under siege, and places that are known for mass death, though can rarely be found near hospitals and graveyards of fallen soldiers.

Behaviour

A Wraith will seemingly patrol sites of mass conflict, seeming to salute the fallen if the corpse has a head, shredding the body if one is missing for unknown reasons. Akin to its fellow undead, Wraiths are active at night in part due to their aversion to sunlight, only travelling in the day out of survival. The sound of marching can be heard when a Wraith glides fast enough. On occasion, Wraiths have been noted to have some twisted sense of honor, sparing any mortals who approach it unarmed, but massacring those who have anything that might resemble a weapon. This honor system causing far greater suffering for those who try collecting the bodies near them.

Abilities

Ethereal Form

All spirits are known for their translucent bodies and ability of moving through inanimate objects. Wraiths have resistance to non-magical attacks and have the ability to hover mid-air.

Cold Grasp

A Wraith’s hands have a strange effect on anyone caught in its hold. Its clasp will restrain the held person until the Wraith is struck by another.

Grippe

When a Wraith strikes, its hands act with precision and strength. When it strikes, the Wraith’s claws dig into the person’s body.
