Introduction

Glumes are old living creatures that rapidly grew from spores in swamp biomes. Their growth is fueled by rotting corpses and dead vegetation that they actively seek, killing living creatures and trying to infect them with their spores.

These great fungi command minor fungi and heralds, and provide them with nourishment and expansion.

Habitat

Any putrid forest or swamp.

They are used to prosper in the Magna Attia region

Description

Glumes look like an agglomeration of mushrooms, mosspawn and other mycelium based life. They have a pulsating demonic-like core that it’s turned with time into a successful symbiotic fusion with natural life.

They have no head, no other weak points and they’ll keep fighting, whatever part you’d cut or separate from their main body. Yet many mushrooms grow on these beings, the remaining part of their body is covered by dark purple mold.

You could hear their smell from even miles away, when the wind blows in your direction. It’s a nauseating smell of mold and rotting corpses, that can easily make people staggered and oblige them to either fight the Glume or leave the place.

Behaviour

Glumes emit spores continuously and try to infest anything they get in contact. They have no eyes or years, yet their whole biome is resonating with their neural system and it is able to blindly perceive anything that enters his habitat from miles away.

He never ventures out of swamps unless someone more powerful obliges him to. Glumes have conspicuous intelligence and, even if they do not talk but telepathically with other mosspawn, they try to set up defenses in their habitats to protect it from intruders and eventually expand their infestations.

In Combat

In combat he’d try to get in melee range and do his slam attack, then sprays his spore cloud. Glumes actively try to convince any other fungal life in their proximity to join their battle.

Abilities

Melee slam: Glumes’s slam attack deals 2d3 damage

Spore Cloud: Glumes are able to produce deadly spore clouds that reduce people’s ability to perceive smells. Some races’ spore clouds even stagger enemies (a staggered player can either move or attack). When the spores touch the ground they make little “Fungus Spawnlings” grow on the battlefield. Fungus Spawnlings use herald stats and attacks and can explode, dealing damage in a 3x3 radius. Spore cloud cooldown depends on the specimen and the biome.

Fungal lordship: Glumes can effectively mind control any other type of fungal creature whose intelligence is less than theirs.

Fungal immunities: Any fungus is immune to poisons, sleep and mind-effects except from other fungus creatures

Split: When killed with slashing damage, some Glumes might split into two smaller Mosspawn.

Drops

Mushrooms, Demonic Mosspawn Core.
