Appearance

Snakes come under the group of reptiles. This group can be recognized by their long and thin body and the fact that they have no limbs. There are many different types of snakes. Of these, only 15 percent are poisonous.

Snakes are known for slithering on their stomachs on the ground and for having approximately the same physique, except for their size and colour, that can vary from 1.5 to 2m.

Snakes usually have a scaly skin which, even if it usually appears as slippery and shiny, it’s always dry since it can repel water. A snake’s scales are not all attached to each other and can stretch. This allows their skin to expand during movement, breathing, pregnancy and while eating large prey.

Habitat

Snakes are cold blooded like all other reptiles , mostly why most species live in warmer places, like in the vicinity of Zadh-Nadrozz and in and around Anjyarr.

There are also snake species that live underground or in watery landscapes, such as rivers, lakes and seas where they learnt how to skillfully swim, although about every snake can climb and swim very well anyway. Snakes live all over Eden with the exception of very cold and frozen places. Snakes are in fact not present in the most northern mountains of Eden.

Behavior

The smell is a snake’s most important sense, although it does not use its nostrils to breathe.

Snakes smell with the help of scent particles that are attached to their tongue, detecting predators and prey around it.

Snakes are used to have a largely solitary life, except in their mating season. During this period, the males will fight each other to win over the female's permission to mate.

Snakes mainly feed on living animals. Smaller prey include amphibians and invertebrates, that they kill by biting it or poisoning it. strangling it or poisoning it. When snakes are hungry, they'll also hunt larger prey like lizards, fishes, other snakes or bigger animal's eggs.

Actions & Abilities

Bite

A melee attack by the snake. Any snake deal 1d2 damage with its bite.

Anyone hit by a bite from a poisonous snake rolls D4 for the effects of the poison:

Viper of the Spine's Venom

  • 1 = The venom has no effect.
  • 2 = The venom is enough to get you dizzy and to lessen your focus. You get -1 on every roll for the next round.
  • 3 = You get a fairly large amount of poison in your body. You get -2 on every roll for the next round.
  • 4 = The poison is enough to test your resolve: You either pass a DC15 defense save or faint for 1 hour (or the rest of the fight, whichever is longer).

Anjyarri Cobra Venom

  • 1 = The Venom has no effect.
  • 2 = The venom is enough to get you dizzy and to lessen your focus. You get -1 on every roll for the next round.
  • 3 = You get a fairly large amount of poison in your body. Your vision is fogged and get -4 on every melee or ranged attack for the next turn.
  • 4 = The poison is enough to test your resolve: You either pass a dc8 defense check or get blinded for the next month. A blinded person can’t do ranged attacks and misses half of its melee attacks. This blindness may be cured with proper remedies.

Jungle’s Mamba Venom 1d4

  • 1 = The Venom has no effect.
  • 2 = The venom is enough to damage your wound further. You lose 1 hp.
  • 3 = You get a fairly large amount of poison in your body. You lose 3hp.
  • 4 = The poison is enough to test your resolve: You either pass a dc8 defense check or your hp will drop to 0.

High Mobility

A snake can climb, swim and has +2 on movement rolls, although it’s unable to dash.

Drops

When a snake dies it drops some parts of the skin and their tusks filled with venom.

It’s possible to gather the venom in a bottle or glass vial, but it’s important to not touch it with your bare hands or you might end up poisoned by it.
