Introduction

The dragons that are more common in the blistering Anjyarri Desert, the legendary Dragon Islands and the volcanoes are called Lacerta Ignis by Attian scholars, otherwise known as ‘The Hovering Death’, or simply ‘Red Dragons’.

Fire dragons' most important feature is their ability to breathe fire. This is due to their gaseous habitat near the mouths of volcanoes, which produce many natural gasses. Fire Dragons grow to inhale a large portion of these gasses through its lifetime, granting it their fire-breathing trait.

Habitat

The Dragon Islands, the Coral Bay, Volcanoes, Anjyarri desert (rarely).

Description

Fire Dragons can be considerably different in appearance: they are mostly red, orange and rarely even brown. The adults are normally 7m long and bear a long set of almost frill-like spikes along the backs of their necks, shoulders, tail and wings, giving them a devilish appearance.

Fire dragons have a pair of large, often partially seared wings attached to their forearms - along with a standard pair of hind legs and a tail.

The Fire Dragons are sleek, though they carry dense muscle in their wings and hind legs, making them extremely agile in the air.

Their scales are notably thicker and tougher than most of the other dragons, making them durable hunters and fearsome predators. Fire Dragons have notably serrated teeth, growing toward the back of the mouth in thin, jagged points. Little flames are constantly emanating from the Dragon’s mouth.

The Fire Dragon's frightening jaws makes gripping and tearing with the mouth extremely easy. Along with these teeth, Fire Dragons have similar hind claws, which are used primarily for lunging upon prey from the air, as the frontal claw-like appendages from their wings.

Behaviour

Due to their hostile, almost spiteful nature, Fire Dragons will hunt nearly anything - ranging from livestock, small animals, larger birds and seldom even humans.

Fire Dragons have their den but they often like to leave their territory, resulting in great clashes with their cousin: the Water Drake, that inhabit the coasts and sometimes trespass into the Jungle or the Anjyarri desert.

The Dragon Islands where they live most of their time are guarded by Kobold tribes with whom they sign mysterious unspoken treaties whose dynamics are yet unclear.

What we know is that Kobolds worship this species and try to obey Red Dragons feral wills if present.

Fire dragons love gold and loot, and attack anyone that carries shining valuable things they want for themselves.

In Combat

Red Dragons will always try to use their fire breath, which is their main weapon. This works through the extremely flammable hydrogen being expelled at a high pressure from the lungs, allowing this feat to be performed with the same ease as breathing.

When they’re in large advantage, fatigued or really angered, they sometimes use their melee natural weapons. If in great danger or in trouble, they will try to escape using their Smoke Bomb ability.

Abilities

Bite and Claws: The Fire Dragon’s bite has the ability to burn and melt. His claws are as sharpened as razors. A full attack from this dragon deals 3d3 damage and leaves the target burning.

Fire Breath The Fire dragon can unleash his distinctive fire breath in a 15m cone, dealing 2d6 damage and leaving everyone burning. This attack has no cooldown, but the dragon will consume its stamina and lose 4 hp.

Smoke Bomb: Fire Dragons can produce a small explosion in his mouth, dealing himself 2 hp damage to create a small smokescreen that uses to retreat.

Draconic Immunities: This dragon is immune to Ignos magic.

Drops

Almost any part of the dragon is useful and can be retrieved by a skilled hunter. They usually make their den in the Dragon Islands, where they pile a hoard of anything shining or valuable collected by them. Their dens are usually protected by Kobolds.
